Cookie Policy

Effective Date: 2026-05-29

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your browser when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize you across visits, remember your preferences, and operate basic functions like keeping you logged in.

This Cookie Policy describes the cookies Scout uses on:

The Lantern device and the Parent App mobile applications do not use cookies; they use platform-native local storage, described in our Privacy Policy.

What we use cookies for

Strictly necessary

These are required for the site to function. Disabling them will break the site.

We do not require consent for strictly necessary cookies (they are exempt under most cookie laws).

Functional

These remember your preferences. Optional but improve UX.

Analytics (where applicable)

We are not currently running web analytics. If we add a privacy-preserving analytics provider in the future (e.g., Plausible or Fathom — both first-party, no cross-site tracking), we will list it here and notify Parent App account holders before enabling it.

Advertising

We do not use advertising cookies. We do not allow third parties to set advertising or tracking cookies through our sites.

Cookie names and durations

Cookies currently set by the consent app and the public site:

Name Purpose Type Duration
scout_session Authentication Strictly necessary Session
scout_csrf CSRF protection Strictly necessary Session
scout_wizard_state Consent wizard progress Strictly necessary Session
scout_lang Language preference Functional 1 year

Your choices

Browser settings

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Note this may break the consent wizard and Parent App login.

Do Not Track

We honor browser Do Not Track signals where applicable. Because we do not run advertising or cross-site tracking, the practical impact is minimal.

Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We honor GPC signals as required by California law.

Third-party cookies

We currently do not use third parties that set cookies on our sites.

If we add an embed (e.g., YouTube video on a marketing page, intercom-style support widget), we will update this policy and add a banner consent flow per applicable state laws.

Updates

This policy is updated when our cookie use changes. Material changes are announced via the website banner and the Parent App.
