Copyright Policy (DMCA)
Effective Date: 2026-05-29
We respect intellectual property
Scout respects intellectual property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"). This policy explains how to submit a copyright infringement notice and what we do when we receive one.
When this applies
Most content within Lantern is generated by AI in response to your child's interactions. We do not host user-uploaded media in the way social media platforms do. However, certain content may be subject to copyright concerns:
- Books, worksheets, or other printed material your child shows to Lantern's camera
- Custom context notes that may quote copyrighted material
- Content you publish on a Parent App community forum (if launched)
If you believe Scout is hosting or processing content that infringes your copyright, please submit a DMCA notice as described below.
How to submit a DMCA notice
Your notice must include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work allegedly infringed
- Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing, with sufficient detail (URL or other location)
- Your contact information — name, address, phone, email
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf
- Your physical or electronic signature
Send notices to our designated DMCA agent:
DMCA Agent Scout Learning Lab LLC 65 Mission Trail Rd, Woodside, CA 94062 Email: dmca@lanternlearning.io (310) 962-0091
What we do when we receive a notice
- Acknowledge receipt within five (5) business days
- Review for completeness; we may request additional information
- Remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing material if the notice is valid
- Notify the user who provided the material, including the notice content (with your contact info redacted upon request)
- Restore the material if we receive a valid counter-notice and you have not initiated litigation within 10-14 business days
Counter-notices
If you believe your material was removed in error, you may submit a counter-notice with:
- Identification of the removed material and its prior location
- Your contact information
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief the material was removed in error or mistaken identity
- A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or for the Northern District of California if you are outside the US)
- Your physical or electronic signature
Send counter-notices to the same DMCA agent above.
Repeat infringers
Scout terminates accounts of users who are repeat copyright infringers. Three or more valid takedown notices against the same account constitutes repeat infringement.
False claims
Knowingly submitting a false DMCA notice or counter-notice is a federal crime under 17 USC §512(f) and can result in liability for damages, including costs and attorney's fees. We may pursue legal remedies against bad-faith filers.
Updates
This policy is updated as needed. Material changes are announced in the Trust Center.
