Trust at Scout

Scout makes Lantern, an AI tutor for kids. Building software for children is a privilege and a responsibility. This page is the front door to how we earn that trust.

Five things to know

  1. We don't sell or share data. Children's data is not used for advertising, not used to train AI models, and not shared with any third party except the small set of service providers we need to run the product. Full list: subprocessors.md.
  2. Voice doesn't live in our cloud. Your child's voice is processed in the moment — to transcribe it and to let Lantern talk back — and is never stored in our cloud. The transcript stays on your local device. (During the friends-and-family pilot, a short reading-practice recording stays on the family device for up to a day or two.) See privacy-policy.md §3.2.
  3. Parents control everything. View, export, correct, delete, pause, withdraw consent. Always. See security.md → Parent Controls.
  4. Safety guardrails on every conversation. Lantern will not discuss inappropriate topics with your child. See safety.md.
  5. Independent oversight. Scout is not currently a member of any FTC-approved COPPA Safe Harbor program; SOC 2 timeline TBD.
